“Japan – Stillness and Substance”: Postscript

What a success! I couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate The French Jewelry Post’s 10th anniversary.

A quick note to say how delighted I was to welcome you to my exhibition, Japan – Stillness and Substance, at Sotheby’s Paris. I owe its success to you, my community. On opening night, we welcomed representatives from the Japanese Embassy and the Franco-Japanese Committee (CCIP), along with so many enthusiasts, collectors, professionals, curators, and others. Over the exhibition’s five days, some 800 visitors came from around the world. Your presence meant a great deal to me.

Thank you!

I am grateful to the Japanese artists—Aya Iwata, Shinji Nakaba, Mariko Sumioka, Manami Aoki, Kimiaki Kageyama, Fumiki Taguchi, and Takashi Kojima for KOHKOH—for creating pieces especially for this exhibition and for placing so much trust in me. Three of them made the trip from Tokyo to Paris.

The exhibition was warmly received by the press, including M Le Monde, O2, Europe 1, Beaux-Arts Magazine, and Madame Figaro Japon. The enthusiasm and emotion it inspired in visitors were also a fitting tribute to the artists’ talent.

Japan – Stillness and Substance was made possible thanks to Magali Teisseire, director of the Jewelry Department at Sotheby’s Paris. My thanks to her teams and to Giacobbe Selab for their work. I am also grateful to Ingrid Heuel for her invaluable collaboration and to Tomomi Minami Herbin. To Ludovic Leonelli for his unwavering support. And to Pomeline for the illustrations and set design.

See you soon for more adventures!

Sandrine Merle.
