GemGenève: a springboard for young designers
The new jewelers’ fair GemGenève aims to put the spotlight on new talent. After Camille Combremont and Emmanuel Tarpin in 2018, who will be the big revelations this time around?
GemGenève: stupendous visibility
GemGenève devotes two areas to young talents. One highlights the Geneva HEAD (Higher School of Art and Design) and its students. The other, the Designer Vivarium, presents ten or so already active young designers, like Alexandra Jeffords and Tatiana Vestraeten. And these young talents gain extraordinary visibility: in 2018, the 4,700 visitors included dealers, major jewelers’ design departments, marketing directors, journalists, key influencers and collectors. Two young people present at the 2018 fair really reaped the benefits of this stupendous visibility.
Camille Combremont: the Faerbers’ protégée
“I was very thrilled to present my work to professionals,” says Camille Combremont a student at the HEAD. “It meant that I could talk to them, receive constructive criticism and make some decisive contacts.” Her reinterpretation of the string of pearls (the set theme for 2018) deeply impressed dealer and GemGenève co-founder Thomas Faerber, who helped her get a foot in the door by financing the production of four moonstone pieces. He also presented them to his collector-customers at the same time as some historic pieces and outstanding gems. What student wouldn’t be in heaven!
Emmanuel Tarpin: the darling of the press
“It was brilliant,” was the succinct comment of Emmanuel Tarpin, who took part in the 2018 Designer Vivarium. His work with aluminum appealed greatly to journalists, who particularly liked his earrings in the form of orchids with creased blue petals and radiant Paraiba tourmalines. The result was a string of articles in the world press, and even comparisons with JAR… He also won the “Jewelry Award” of the American magazine Town & Country. All this acclaim piqued the interest of important figures, including buyers for department stores and Lee Siegelson, the famous New York dealer. Tarpin now presents his jewelry exclusively at art fairs like the TEFAF.
We wish all of you every success.
