The Les Enluminures jewelry podcasts

In the flood of jewelry podcasts, those of the Les Enluminures gallery (specializing in medieval art) certainly stand out.

Sandra Hindman recorded her first podcasts at the end of 2019. “All of them illustrate a gallery-related event, whether they concern manuscripts, miniatures or objects,” explains the gallery’s founder, who is based in Chicago, New York and Paris. One of them, for example, is dedicated to “A majestic early Florentine humanistic manuscript”.

The expertise of the contributors

The quality of these jewelry podcasts is due to the level of expertise of the speakers, key players in the world of jewelry whose voices are rarely heard. They are no longer as young as they were, but what richness, what scholarship! Sandra Hindman, herself a historian and professor at the University of Chicago, interviews John King, Chief Quality Officer at the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), Benjamin Zucker, one of the most important diamond merchants in New York and historian Beatriz Chadour-Sampson. Although little known to the general public, none of them have anything to prove when it comes to expertise.

Diana Scarisbrick

I loved the last one with Diana Scarisbrick, an English woman in her nineties who is a great jewelry historian I had the chance to meet in 2008. She looks back on her studies at Oxford and especially on her discovery of jewelry at the age of… 50! “It’s never too late! “ she laughs. She recounts her links with H.J. Philips, an antique jewelry dealer since 1860, her collection of rings and her fascinating research in Paris while writing “Chaumet”, one of her many books. Her next project focuses on the cameos of Japanese collector Kazumi Arikawa.
