A unique chance to view a Colombian masterpiece – the monstrance from the Church of San Ignacio in Bogota. Crafted between 1700 and 1704 by Spanish goldsmiths, it is graced with 1,485 Muzo emeralds – thought to be the finest, the purest and the biggest. The beauty of these stones drove the Spanish Conquistadors to distraction and for years they unleashed bloody repression on the Indians in a bid to find out the whereabouts of the mines, lost amid the thick and inhospitable vegetation of the Andean Cordillera.
