Where to buy a fabric brooch?

Embroidered patches and silk flowers are the perfect solution to adorn your jacket lapel or personalise your white T-shirt. Here’s a selection of the best places to pick out some original gems.

Indress, fashion florist

Wies Schulte’s favourite accessory is a brooch made of silk or ostrich feathers. “This jewel, my mother’s favourite in the 1970s, adds a feminine touch to my androgynous collections of parka pants and shirts,” explains the Dutch designer. In her workshop, the die-cut and embossed petals come in exclusive colours to match the clothes. Mounted on a pin, this brooch-flower is fitted with an elastic band to multiply your wearing options, on the wrist, in the hair or necklace. On December 3rd, you’ll be able to make your brooch-flower from whatever petals you choose, available in forty colours. Delivered within ten days in a personalised box. 235 euros.

Macon & Lesquoy, embroidery jeweler

From sea anchors, precious stones, golden teeth, cosmonauts, and palm trees to farm animals and mermaids … The hundreds of embroidered jewelry pieces in Marie Macon and Anne-Laure Lesquoy’s shop feature humorous, retro, sentimental motifs, some of which can be pinned on. Inspired by military embroidery, they are made using the same Indo-Pakistani technique, the cannetille, which consists of a very fine thread of gold or silver rolled up. The others, iron-on stickers, are hand-embroidered in Portugal. “It’s a great gift because each one of them allows us to remember a story, to symbolise a bond or an event,” say the designers. Like charms. From 20 euros.

Legeron, plumage florist

Make sure you don’t come here to choose your flowers during the fashion season because the whole place is abuzz! At its workshop in the centre of Paris, Legeron has been supplying flowers and feathers for three generations to fashion houses such as Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Givenchy and Chanel. Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin are also fans. Browse for as long as it takes through drawers of the large wooden cupboards, in which time seems to have stood still – they’re full of carnations, roses and irises categorised by colour or material. Camellia, the house’s speciality, is available in tweed, leather, silk, lurex, python and feathers. Bruno Legeron can also design tailor-made versions in about ten days. Between 40 and 120 euros.
